Did You Know That NFL Star Tim Tebow Was Born in the Philippines?

Tim Tebow in Philippines With Filipino Kids

Tim Tebow, quarterback for the New England Patriots, has come a long way since the day he arrived in Makati City in the Philippines.

Tim was born in 1987 to Baptist missionaries in the Metro Manila area. Although he is now a talented, professional football player, Tim has never forgotten his roots in the Philippines.

Tim showed great talent early in his career, earning the Heisman Trophy as a college sophomore at the University of Florida, where he earned a football scholarship. In 2009, he lead his team to the BCS Championship and was drafted to the Denver Broncos in 2010 and was on his way in professional football. As their starting quarterback, he led the team to six wins in their next eight games and into the playoffs. In 2012, he was traded to the New York Jets, and in 2013, he was picked up by the New England Patriots.

What is interesting about Tim, aside from sports, is that he never forgot where he came from. His family was very Christian-oriented, and this is part of Tim's appeal. As New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft stated about Tim, "...he’s someone who believes in spirituality, he’s very competitive and works hard, and has a great attitude, and he’s a winner...the fact that spirituality is very important to him is very appealing to me.”

In 2010, Tim founded the Tim Tebow Foundation. The charitable organization helps children in the Philippines and in the U.S. who are in need. Forms of support provided by Tim's foundation include helping children with life-threatening illnesses, building facilities for children who are ill and playrooms for children in hospitals and orphanages. Tim's latest effort is working with The Adoption Aid program that gives financial support to families adopting children with special needs.
