23-year old Filipina Megan Young recently beat 126 other contestants in the Miss World 2013 competition in Bali, Indonesia.
She pledged to be "the best Miss World ever". The competition, originally to be in the capital city of Jakarta, was moved to Bali because of threats from some Muslim groups.Young, who wore a pearl white gown, reportedly cried tears of joy as the sash was placed over her shoulder by last year's winner Miss China. The second place winner was Miss France, Marine Lorphelin, and in third place was Miss Ghana, Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter.
All of the contestants aiming to win the crown were introduced wearing shimmering evening gowns, many of them with plunging necklines and slits up the leg. Four candidates dropped out earlier, mainly due to illnesses, said Syafril Nasution, one of the local organizers.
Young told the cheering audience that she would "be myself in everything I do, to share what I know and to educate people".
The event was broadcast in nearly 200 countries, and was heavily guarded by armed police, but no major incidents were reported.
